・下眼瞼とは、眼瞼（まぶた）のうち、眼球の前面を下から覆う部分のことである。上眼瞼との間のすき間を眼瞼裂という。

・上眼瞼より小さく、上眼瞼挙筋のように眼瞼を引き上げる筋をもたないため、動く範囲は上眼瞼より小さい。
・前面から後面に向かって、皮膚、皮下組織、眼輪筋、瞼板、瞼板腺（マイボーム腺）、結膜（眼瞼結膜）が重なってできている。眼窩の縁と瞼板の間には眼窩隔膜が張り、眼窩内の脂肪が前に出てこないように仕切っている。
・下眼瞼の瞼板（下瞼板）は上瞼板より小さく、上瞼板が三日月形であるのに対し、楕円形をしている。下瞼板と下結膜円蓋の間には、平滑筋の層である下瞼板筋がある。
・眼瞼縁には睫毛が生え、内眼角に近い部分には涙の出口である涙点が開いている。
・皮膚の感覚は、内眼角の付近では滑車下神経の枝が、それ以外の大部分は上顎神経の枝である眼窩下神経の枝が担う。血液は、外側眼瞼動脈と内側眼瞼動脈が吻合してつくる動脈弓から送られる。
・眼瞼が内側（眼球側）に反り返る眼瞼内反は、多くが下眼瞼に起こり、加齢によるものが多い。また、加齢による下眼瞼のゆるみは、目の乾燥や刺激の原因となる。

The skin of the lower eyelid is supplied by branches of the infratrochlear at the medial angle. The rest is supplied by branches of the infraorbital nerve of the maxillary branch (V2) of the trigeminal nerve.
Entropion usually results from aging, but sometimes can be due to a congenital defect, a spastic eyelid muscle, or a scar on the inside of the lid that could be from surgery, injury, or disease. It is an asymptomatic condition that can, rarely, lead to trichiasis, which requires surgery. It mostly affects the lower lid, and is characterized by the turning inward of the lid, toward the globe.
