【概 要】
・腎実質は、腎門から続く内部の空所（腎洞）を取り囲む。外面は腎被膜（線維被膜）に包まれ、内側では腎乳頭が小腎杯の中に突き出る。
・腎洞の中にある腎杯・腎盂、血管・神経、脂肪組織は腎実質に含めない。

・腎髄質は10個前後の腎錐体からなり、錐体の間には皮質が入り込んで腎柱をつくる（船戸和弥のHP）。1つの腎錐体とそれを覆う皮質をあわせて腎葉という。
・尿をつくる単位であるネフロンと集合管は腎実質の中にある。腎小体は皮質にあり、ヘンレ係蹄と集合管の多くは髄質を走る。
・慢性の腎臓病では腎実質が薄くなり、腎臓が小さくなる。病変がおもに腎実質にある病気を腎実質性疾患という。
